If you are planning an upcoming corporate retreat, family gathering, or luxury leisure escape to Brazil’s stunning Costa Verde, there is an important operational update you need to factor into your logistics.
As of June 1, 2026, the municipalities of Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande have officially implemented a mandatory Tourism and Environmental Preservation Fee. Managed through the new VIVA ANGRA Digital Tourism System, this fee is designed to support the conservation of the region’s pristine rainforests, secluded beaches, and delicate marine ecosystems.
To ensure your transition into paradise remains completely seamless and stress-free, we have integrated this process directly into our ground operations. Here is a breakdown of how the new regulation works, the estimated costs, and the details required to secure your group’s pre-clearance.
How the Fee Structure Works
The preservation fee is calculated per person and scales based on the duration of the visit and the type of itinerary:
- Standard Overnight Stay (~USD 14.00 per person): Applies to visitors staying a minimum of two nights at a registered accommodation or luxury resort.
- Short Stay / Unregistered Accommodation (~USD 28.00 per person): Applies to visitors who do not meet the two-night minimum or are staying at properties not registered under local regulations.
- Day-Use Excursions (~USD 8.00 per person): Applies to day-trippers departing from Angra dos Reis on private yacht charters, schooner tours, or island excursions without an overnight stay.
Please note: Official rates are established in Brazilian Reais (BRL). Final costs in USD may vary slightly based on the daily exchange rate at the time of invoicing.
Operational Logistics & Passenger Requirements
To avoid boarding delays at the piers or waiting in lines at regional terminals, our team processes and issues the mandatory digital tourism authorizations well in advance. To facilitate this, the following passenger details must be provided prior to travel:
- Full name (as it appears on the ID)
- Date of birth & Nationality
- Passport number (mandatory for international guests) or national ID
- Name of the registered hotel, villa, or resort
- Exact arrival and departure dates
Exemptions to Keep in Mind
Local authorities grant full exemptions from the environmental fee to specific demographics:
- Children: Under 4 years old.
- Seniors: Adults aged 60 and above.
Operational Tip: Please remind your guests to keep their passports or official identification accessible during transfers, as local conservation officers may request supporting documentation to verify eligibility for these exemptions.
Seamless Integration for Our Partners
If you have existing bookings with us, here is how your files are being handled:
- Bookings confirmed BEFORE June 1, 2026: These reservations are fully protected. Any retroactive environmental fees will be entirely absorbed by us—your original contract pricing remains unchanged.
- Bookings confirmed FROM June 1, 2026 onwards: The mandatory fee will be automatically and transparently incorporated into your custom proposal and final package invoice.
By handling the paperwork, manual contracts, and municipal taxes behind the scenes, we ensure that your travelers don’t see the logistics—they only experience the emerald waters and breathtaking beauty of Angra.
