Capim Açu Trail
The national marine park comprises the most preserved area on the island and this trail is the largest within the park. For this trail you need to be accompanied by an accredited guide.
This is the longest trail on the island and requires good physical conditioning. It starts near the entrance to Sancho beach and follows a historic road, with stretches of dirt and rocks and rocky shore. On the way, surrounded by rich vegetation, you will find steep climbs and descents, along with incredible viewpoints which allow you to admire both sides of the island and all the beautiful geography of the archipelago. These views can only be seen on this tour.
There is also the possibility to visit the Farol da Sapata on the way, which has a single access through this trail. In addition to the beauty of this whole view, after descending a steep slope, you will cool off in natural pools and we can observe up close the impressive Capim Açu cave. The end of the trail is strenuous with almost 3 km on an unstable trail, on volcanic stones, until arrival at Leão beach, one of the most deserted on the island.
