Brazil Custom Group Vacation Package – Chapada Diamantina Bahia Adventure (4 Nights)

This vast national park, spread over 1,500 km sq (932 sq miles), is one of the many natural wonders of the state of Bahia. The Chapada Diamantina’s mountainous landscape contains hundreds of waterfalls, large caves with impressive stalagmite and stalactite formations, rivers with natural swimming pools and an abundance of magnificent flora. The park offers superb trekking and walking through beautiful landscapes, full of valleys and mountains, with stunning views. The main town of Lencois, founded by the Portuguese in 1844, is a historical monument and a colonial gem, with many bars, restaurants and artisan shops.

Observations

Transportation:

  • Transfers and tours in private vehicles with your private English-speaking guide. Due to the nature of some tours the vehicles might not be air-conditioned.

Adventure:

  • Easy to moderate. The nature tours have a moderate adventure rating. Treks to some of the waterfalls require a reasonable level of fitness and agility. Not advised for children under 10 yrs. Tropical weather and direct sunlight demands sun protection and plenty of fluids.

Day 1 – Arrival in Lençóis

Upon arrival at Lençóis Airport, you will be met by your private guide and transferred to your hotel in the town center. After checking in, feel free to relax at the hotel or explore the charming colonial village before dinner.

Note: Flights from Salvador to Lençóis currently operate only on Saturdays. Please plan your travel dates accordingly.

Day 2 – Caves, Canyons, and Panoramic Views

Today’s full-day adventure features the Torrinha Cave, Mucugezinho River, Poço do Diabo (Devil’s Pool), and Pai Inácio Mountain.

Your first stop is Torrinha, one of Brazil’s most impressive cave systems, home to rare geological formations like the famous Aragonite Flower. After a 3-hour guided exploration, you will head to Pai Inácio Mountain. A brief 20-minute hike leads you to the summit for a breathtaking 360-degree view of the Chapada valleys.

The afternoon includes a refreshing dip in the Mucugezinho River and the stunning Poço do Diabo waterfall. A packed lunch is included, and you will be driven back to your hotel at the end of the day.

Day 3 – The Sossego Waterfall Trek

After breakfast, embark on a trek to the Sossego Waterfall. This 7.5 km (4.7 miles) hike from Lençóis follows an uneven riverbed through a spectacular canyon. It is a rewarding journey that culminates at the waterfall, where you can enjoy lunch, swim in the natural pool, and capture incredible photos. The return trek follows the same scenic path back to the village.

Day 4 – Smoke Waterfall & Capão Valley

On day four, you will head to the Capão Valley to visit the legendary Smoke Waterfall (Cachoeira da Fumaça). At 350 meters (1,148 feet), it is one of Brazil’s highest falls.

After a 75 km drive to the trailhead, a 2-hour hike across a lush plateau brings you to the top of the falls. From the cliff’s edge, you’ll see why it’s called “Smoke”—the wind often catches the water, turning it into a fine mist before it ever hits the ground. Lunch is served during your break at the summit. On the way back, stop for a refreshing swim at the Riachinho Waterfall.

Day 5 – Serrano River & Return to Salvador

On your final morning, enjoy a leisurely walk along the Serrano River to explore the Primavera and Cachoeirinha waterfalls. Be sure to wear your swimwear, as these natural “hydromassage” spots are perfect for a morning dip.

You will also visit the Colored Sands Chamber, a series of caves where erosion has created sands in a vibrant palette of natural hues—the same sands used in the local “sand art” handicrafts. After the tour, you will check out of your hotel and be transferred via private air-conditioned vehicle back to Salvador.
